Overview[edit]

Front side[edit]

The level opens in front of a wooden gate. Beyond it, there are a few Zombie Guys and a Vampire Heyho, with a Shy Guy in the background. A Winged Cloud opens a Coin trail underneath a stone ledge that leads to the first Smiley Flower. Further along the path is the front door of a large mansion. The foyer of the mansion contains two Zombie Guys and a Zombie Debuho sitting on a chair. A chandelier will fall through the ceiling to jumpscare the player, but can be used as a platform to reach the room above it. This room has four Red Coins - three under a table, and one behind a cardboard ghost in the background, which must be shot with a Yoshi Egg. The end of the room holds a Zombie Debuho and an invisible Winged Cloud directly above the right exit, which reveals another Smiley Flower. To the left of the chandelier is a ledge leading to a small room with a hidden Winged Cloud holding eight Coins and two Red Coins.

The right exit is blocked by a large, walking chair, which Yoshi must push out of the way and jump over. The chair will walk back to its original spot, blocking the door. Another chair is against the opposing wall, and will move when the player defeats the Zombie Debuho weighing it down. Underneath it is a Winged Cloud with two Red Coins and a trap door to the lower room. When the player jumps down, they are ambushed by cardboard cutout monsters, one of which hides a Red Coin behind them, and another with a Key to the exit. To the left, is a small room holding an Egg Block and a Smiley Flower in a treasure chest, and leads back into the main foyer.

Leaving the mansion from the ambush room, the player will find more Zombie Guys besides a cliff. A secret present box in the background can be shot with an Egg for a prize of many Coins. On top of the cliff is a Winged Timer Cloud - hitting it activates a timed challenge to hit two Monty Moles and one big Monty Mole. Hitting each of them with an Egg awards the player with a Smiley Flower. After two more Zombie Guys is the first Checkpoint Bell and second mansion.

Inside is a large room with two platforms to climb over a wall, guarded by a single Zombie Guy and the first Chompagobbler. The Chompagobbler patrols along a set path, and if they see the player, they will chase them and send them back to the beginning of the room. The player must navigate around the Chompagobbler to reach a Smiley Flower. By the exit is a Winged Cloud holding some healing Hearts. Leaving this room, Yoshi can restock his Eggs with the Egg Block before the next challenge. The following room is another set of platforms guarded by a Chompagobbler. The Winged Timed Cloud under the lowest platform produces several Blue Coins and a Smiley Flower. The door to the right is locked, so the player must climb to the upper floor and sneak past another Chompagobbler for the Key.

After escaping the second mansion, the player can climb some card trees and jump on two Vampire Heyho to reach a Smiley Flower. Beyond this, Yoshi must run from an Attack Ghost, a large Shy Guy cutout wielding a scythe, being sure not to hit the approaching Zombie Guys or miss the upcoming Red Coins. The Attack Ghost abandons its chase when the player reaches the second Checkpoint Bell and third mansion.

The foyer of this mansion is much larger than the predecessors, and at the very entrance is a walking couch that, when the Zombie Debuho is removed, will mow down a line of enemies to clear the room. By climbing some swinging chandeliers, the player can reach a treasure chest that activates another cutout monster jumpscare, also hiding a Red Coin. Further along the chandeliers are two Winged Clouds, one with a Smiley Flower and one with some Hearts. By throwing an Egg at a loose section of the ceiling, the player can open a stairway to the upper floor. The first room here holds two walking chairs again weighed down by Zombie Debuho. The right chair covers a chest with three Red Coins, while the left chair hides the door to another Chompagobbler room, with a Key stashed away in the upper-left corner - directly above a walking couch and Zombie Debuho. With this key, Yoshi can exit the mansion.

Under the back exit's porch is a secret chest containing the last three Red Coins. Further along the path, the scythe-wielding Attack Ghost appears once more to catch Yoshi before he reaches the end of the level.

Flip side[edit]

The cyan Poochy Pup is hiding behind the walking couch in the Key room of the first mansion, guarded by a Chompagobbler. The black Pup can be found in the next mansion in the Egg Block room - from the Flip side perspective, a rope is now visible, which can be climbed to the mansion's attic. The Pup is hiding in a chest. The pink and final Pup is playing the first room of the final mansion, and the player must aim their Eggs around the cutout monsters blocking the view. The player can continue right to the end of the Flipside.

Collectibles[edit]

  • Smiley Flower 3: In a chest between the opening foyer and the cutout ambush room.

While the Wii U seemed to be nearly overflowing with platformers based on Nintendo's most beloved mascots, the Nintendo Switch by comparison is still lacking a few of the most important platforming pals. Enter Yoshi, for Yoshi's Crafted World, which appears to be exactly the kind of wholesome Nintendo action platforming that fans of Nintendo's development studios love. This is the same Yoshi game that was originally announced at E3 2017, and after a long development, its release appears to finally be approaching.

Not long ago, it was offering instructions and a printable design to create a Peachette paper craft super crown. Now, to promote Yoshi's Crafted World, Nintendo has uploaded a free printable diorama.

Here's everything we know so far about what you'll get to do in Yoshi's Crafted World:

What is Yoshi's Crafted World?

Yoshi's Crafted World is the latest Yoshi title from Good-Feel, following Yoshi's Woolly World for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. It shares many similarities with its predecessor, the most obvious being that it's another Yoshi action-platforming game. But both games make use of a crafts-like aesthetic, with Woolly World focusing on fabrics and Crafted World using paper items in the style of a miniature diorama. Most of Woolly World's mechanics, enemies, and concepts make returns in Crafted World, though the game and its levels are entirely new.

One of the big draws of Yoshi's Crafted World is this craft aesthetic, which can manifest in interesting platforming sections where you're leaping across rolled bits of paper, flowers made of wood and string, and facing enemies that look like a 5-year-old made them in art class!

Is there a story?

Like many other Yoshi games, there is a light story guiding your adventures across Yoshi's island home. Baby Bowser and Kamek appear in the Yoshi's happy home and steal the coveted Sundream Stone, scattering its gems across multiple worlds. As Yoshi, you'll have to track down the Sundream Stone and stop a horde of Baby Bowser and Kamek's minions along the way. That means lots of collectibles and hidden secrets, just like in past Yoshi games!

How do you play?

Like past Yoshi games, Yoshi's main abilities are his flutter jump and his ability to eat enemies and turn them into eggs. As a platformer, you'll need to use Yoshi's ability to jump and flutter jump to climb and cross levels. But enemies will fly, run, and roll at you as you go, so you'll also have to work your way forward by eating them, turning them into eggs, and then using those eggs to throw at other enemies or at certain spots on the map to reveal hidden platforms or secrets.

Yoshi Crafted World Wiki

And like its predecessor Yoshi's Woolly World, Yoshi's Crafted World will feature unlockable Yoshi color palettes you can swap to as you collect them, allowing you to play as an adorably soft Yoshi in any number of different colors and patterns.

What's this about flipping levels?

The big 'gimmick' of Yoshi's Crafted World is that levels can be 'flipped.' Levels are designed on a three-dimensional plane, with enemies in the foreground and background and with the ability to flip the level backward and play from the other side. This is occasionally done as a part of the regular gameplay of the level, but you can also play any level from back to front flipped over after you beat it forward.

Level

This doesn't just apply to the game's flip mechanics, though. Because the game is a 2D platformer on a 3D plane, you'll often find yourself moving forward and back in a three-dimensional space to avoid enemies, collect items and coins, and platform through obstacles.

This will surely result in some interesting challenges and platforming puzzles, so keep an eye out for ways flipping the level can change your perspective!

Can I play with a friend?

You can! Yoshi's Crafted World includes the ability to play with two players at once, each in control of a Yoshi. You can help one another get through all the levels for a bit of extra assistance you wouldn't otherwise have while playing solo.
